Volkswagen Golf GTI — Bolt Pattern & Wheel Fitment

2022-2024 8th gen, Mk8 (Type CD1) — pre-facelift

SAFETY-CRITICAL: torque is 103 lb-ft (140 Nm), NOT the 88-89 lb-ft (120 Nm) that third-party torque aggregators and forums publish for VW. I confirmed this two independent ways. (1) VW AG's own Golf/Golf GTI/Golf R owner's manual gives exactly one figure, "140 Nm (103 ft-lbs)", explicitly "for steel or alloy wheel rims" — I text-extracted the whole 374-page document and 140 is the only Nm value in it, so there is NO separate steel/spare torque and lugTorqueSteel is deliberately omitted. (2) Two KBA/TÜV Nord wheel-approval reports that Volkswagen publishes on its own asset server (ABE 52463*03, dated Feb 2022, and ABE 52464*02) each tabulate torque per vehicle type: every "VW Golf 8" row (EC type code CD / CDV) carries the 140 Nm fastener code, while every "VW Golf 7" (type AU), Golf Sportsvan and Jetta row carries the 120 Nm code. That is the OEM's own documentation of exactly the generation boundary people get wrong — 120 Nm is the older MQB/PQ35-era Golf figure and must not be carried over to the Mk8. BOLT PATTERN / THREAD / BORE NOW OEM-CONFIRMED (this is what I changed): the same two VW-published approval reports state, for Volkswagen Zubehör wheels carrying Golf 8 part numbers 5H0 071 496 and 5H0 071 495 and approved for the Golf 8, "Lochkreisdurchmesser: 112 mm, Lochzahl: 5" (= 5x112), "Mittenlochdurchmesser: 57,06 mm", ball seat Ø25,6 mm, and "Serien-Radschraube … Gewinde M14x1,5, Schaftlänge 27,5 mm". Two caveats to be honest about: (a) those two approvals are for 15" and 16" winter wheels, so their vehicle rows cover Golf 8 variants from 66 to 140 kW and do not name the 180 kW GTI (those rim sizes do not clear GTI brakes) — the bolt circle, centre bore and wheel-bolt spec are hub/body attributes common to the whole type-CD Golf 8 range, and the GTI-covering owner's manual independently gives the same 140 Nm; (b) the documents state 57,06 mm as the WHEEL bore; 57.1 mm is the conventional nominal hub figure and is what is published here. OFFSET — READ THIS BEFORE BUYING 19s: ET51 is genuinely OEM-stated, but only for the 7.5J x 18 wheel (manual snow-chain table, printed p. 283, "7 1/2 J x 18 ET 51"). The offset of the 8J x 19 wheels is NOT OEM-confirmed anywhere I could reach — do not treat 51 as the 19-inch figure. MANUAL EDITION CAVEAT: VW of America gates MY2023+ owner's manuals behind a VIN and maintenance.vw.com will not serve 2022/2023 GTI manuals without one; the Internet Archive was offline during this session; and VW's factory workshop manual "Golf 2020 / Wheels and Tyres, Edition 12.2020" (which search-engine indexes show also states 140 Nm for wheel bolts) is only reachable through pirated mirrors, which I would not download from. So the manual edition I actually read is VW AG's own current printing (produced 07.2026, Mk8.5 era, includes "GTI 50 Years" data). The 2022-dated KBA approval above is what makes the torque era-correct rather than inferred from a newer printing. TRIM/YEAR GOTCHAS: for MY2024 the "GTI 380" equipment set is standard on every manual-transmission GTI at all three trims and brings 19-inch wheels with 235/35R19 summer tires, so 18-inch 225/40R18 is DSG S and SE only that year; for MY2022-2023 the 18-inch is standard on S and SE regardless of transmission, Autobahn gets the 19-inch. US GTIs generally ship with a tire mobility kit rather than a spare; if a spare wheel is fitted, the manual's single 140 Nm applies to it too. GENERATION-ADJACENT WARNING: this row is the US MY2022-2024 Mk8 (the Mk8 GTI launched in Europe in 2020 as the same car). Do NOT apply it to a US MY2021 or earlier GTI — those are Mk7/Mk7.5 (type AU), which share 5x112 and the 57.1 bore but are specified at 120 Nm, per the VW-published approval tables cited above. Mk8.5 (2025+) is a separate generation and is not covered here. The US model code CD1 is confirmed by VW of America's own owner-literature catalogue, which maps model_code "CD1" to "Golf A8".
